Gauteng South Chess is a Chess Union affiliated to Chess South Africa (CHESSA) which is the representative chess body controlled by FIDE and the controlling body for chess in South Africa.

The Johannesburg Chess Club is one of the oldest chess clubs in South Africa and is the Chess Club of Gauteng South Chess. It meets at Houghton Primary School on Tuesday evenings at 18h00 till 19h30 for regular chess and coaching for individuals and squads.   

The Gauteng South School's Chess Club operates as the training vehicle for chess playing schools in the region administered Gauteng South Chess. 

The vision of Gauteng South Chess is to play, promote and manage chess in the Area of Johannesburg Metro. We manage and develop our members with the highest standards of technical competence and safety, providing equal opportunities in all sections of the community.
